- Sorry about the standard AOL lack of indenting of quotes...

- True, but the QL is the ONLY software making use of the voice feature of
- the
- Vi at this time. When Delrina gets theirs working for Vi, it will only be
- for Win95.
- So, wonderful or not, us Vi owners have to put up with QL. I still expect
- bundled
- software/hardware will work as advertised, too, which this combo does not.
- BTW, Delrina's WinComm was the best comm software I've used to-date, and
- it came bundled, so the comment above doesn't always hold true.
-
- When the modem was reviewed in telecom journals like CT, USR said it would
- include TalkShop from Radish. Instead, we get QL...

- Well, I paid for the capability, as I wanted it. I don't have a digital
- answering machine and wanted to kill two birds with one stone as I needed
- a 28.8 modem, but more importantly I wanted simultaneous FAX and voice
- reception with a single incoming line. Since the Vi advertised that, I
- expected it. I also counted on USR's reputation and the fact that my 14.4K
- Sportster has been a great modem.
-
- The computer price (other than hard disk and fan wear) is not really a
- factor as I didn't buy the computer to serve as an answering machine. The
- voicemail function works in the background, and the computer is often idle
- when calls come in anyway... I call it increased utilization.

- I'm glad it works for you. The ones I bought and recommended work on 57K
- some
- of the time (about one time in 3). USR even admits there is a problem with
- the 57K speed. They recommend 115K, but as I've noted in my posts this
- counters Smith Micro's note that there is a voicemail bug at 115K and
- voicemail should be run at 38K instead until there is a fix. Voicemail
- seems
- to work fine at 38K.
-
- I finally got a response from USR to my problems. Time since entry into
- their
- system--6 weeks. Not good at all. Other users, even on their BBS, report
- the
- same frustration. This is my major beef, along with the fact that some of
- these problems were not caught although they are rather obvious. Try your
- Vi
- and exercise the voicemail at 115K. See what you find. See VOICE ERROR:
- 1002 when trying to open and close the playback window? Try a support
- call,
- then, and measure how long it takes for you to get a response.
